Dealership Options and Trinkets

The car's paperwork clearly indicates that three options were installed at the dealership: door edge guards, an emergency flasher and a trailer hitch. Yes, a trailer hitch! You can see the trailer hitch in the photos of the car from when it was almost new and in the crash photos. I never really cared for door edge guards, the flashers mount in such a way that they become a real knee knocker and this car would just look odd with a trailer hitch (and I don't care to drill holes in the trunk pan). So, to justify leaving these items off the car I display the car as delivered to the dealership, not as delivered to the customer. At shows, I do display these items with the car.

The door edge guards are still in their original packaging. The flasher and trailer hitch could not be found in original packaging so are displayed alone as you see them here. Everything is complete down to the last knob, bracket, nut, bolt and washer.

Given the documentation on the car and knowing the salesman who ordered and sold the car new, it is well known that the car came from the Plainview, Nebraska Chevrolet dealership Watson Chevrolet. The dealership is still in business. Tom, the original salesman, has been exceptionally kind and generous with me over the years and has given me a number of vintage dealership giveaway trinkets he had saved over the years. I love this kind of stuff! Everything pictured is typically displayed with the car at shows and everything is of the mid-1960's vintage.

The items you see pictured here starting from the top left are: a glass coffee cup, GM touchup paint, a large sunvisor clip, a small screwdriver, a bottle/can opener and two yard sticks. Everything but the touch up paint and one of the yardsticks is labeled with the Watson Chevrolet name. The touchup paint is unfortunately dried up, but the container does still have paint inside (which was useful when trying to get the new paint made to the correct shade of maroon) and still has a small amount of rubbing compound under the red lid on the top of the cap.
